Robbery at N.J. Cannabis Dispensary Leads to Arrest of Suspect
Authorities in New Jersey have arrested a man in connection with the robbery of a cannabis dispensary that occurred earlier this month. The incident took place at the Nova Farms cannabis dispensary located in the 600 block of Mantua Avenue in Woodbury on November 3, 2023.
According to police reports, a man wearing a wolf mask forcibly entered the establishment through a drive-thru window. Armed with a crowbar, he confronted employees and stole the cash drawer while the business was open. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported during the incident.
Police released images of the suspect, showcasing him wielding the crowbar outside the dispensary. A notable image captured him falling out of the drive-thru window as he attempted to escape. The investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at a residence on South Childs Street in Woodbury, where authorities arrested Theodore D. Sparks, a 25-year-old man.
During interviews, employees identified Sparks as a former worker at the dispensary, revealing that he had previously brought the wolf mask to work. According to an affidavit, Sparks confessed to the robbery and admitted to visiting a casino in Atlantic City afterward, where he spent the stolen cash.
Sparks now faces multiple charges, including first-degree robbery, second-degree burglary, and third-degree theft, among others. He is currently detained while awaiting a hearing. As of now, Sparks’ attorney has not provided any comments regarding the case.
In a statement regarding the arrest, the Woodbury Police Department highlighted the effectiveness of their Watch Over Woodbury camera system, which comprises over 50 surveillance cameras throughout the area. This technology played a crucial role in the investigation and subsequent arrest.
The case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by local businesses in maintaining security, particularly in the cannabis sector, which has seen a rise in robberies since legalization. Law enforcement continues to encourage community vigilance and cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.
As investigations continue, the community remains on alert, and police are committed to ensuring the safety of local establishments and their employees.
