Nitrous Oxide Shows Promise in Treating Depression, Study Finds
A comprehensive meta-analysis led by the University of Birmingham has revealed that short-term treatment with nitrous oxide could offer new hope for patients suffering from major depressive disorder. This finding is particularly significant for individuals who have not responded to traditional first-line antidepressants.
The study, published on October 3, 2023, analyzed data from multiple clinical trials involving patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder. Researchers found that nitrous oxide, commonly known for its use as an anesthetic and pain relief agent, may have therapeutic effects when used in a controlled clinical setting.
Potential Benefits for Treatment-Resistant Depression
