New Kia Seltos Expands Features and Size Ahead of 2026 Launch
Kia has unveiled the latest version of its Seltos SUV, set to launch in the United States in 2026, likely marketed as a 2027 model. This new iteration aims to enhance the brand’s appeal with expanded dimensions, improved features, and a hybrid powertrain option. The announcement was made during a recent event in South Korea, where Kia showcased the vehicle’s sleek design and advanced technology.
The updated Seltos boasts a length of 174.4 inches, which is an increase of 1.8 inches compared to its predecessor. The wheelbase has also grown by 2.4 inches, contributing to a more spacious interior. With a wider stance and a slightly lower height, the new model presents a sportier profile. Kia aims to maintain affordability, with starting prices projected at $23,690.
Hybrid Power and Enhanced Features
For the first time, Kia will offer a hybrid variant of the Seltos, although it will not be available until later in 2026. While the hybrid model is confirmed for the U.S. market, details regarding the gasoline engine options are still pending. The Seltos will feature three gasoline engines that deliver 149, 180, and 193 horsepower, alongside various transmission choices, including a manual gearbox and several automatic options.
In addition to the hybrid powertrain, the new Seltos will introduce several advanced features. A notable addition is a ChatGPT-powered virtual assistant, designed to enhance connectivity and navigation. Other technological upgrades include a panoramic sunroof, a 12-inch head-up display, and a dual-screen setup featuring two 12.3-inch displays. Kia has also focused on comfort, with enhanced acoustic insulation and thicker glass to reduce road noise.
Kia anticipates strong sales for the new Seltos, projecting annual sales of 430,000 units. This model is a key part of Kia’s strategy to expand its market presence, particularly in India and Europe, where it will be offered for the first time. The Seltos competes with popular small SUVs such as the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Toyota Corolla Cross.
Design and Interior Enhancements
The exterior design of the new Seltos draws inspiration from Kia’s larger models, including the Telluride and EV9. Key design elements include a broad grille and distinctive running lights, creating a robust appearance. Inside, the vehicle features modern amenities, including multiple storage options and rear seats that fold flat for additional cargo space.
Kia has responded to customer feedback by adding two new trim levels: the sporty GT-Line and the rugged X-Line. These options reflect a growing demand for versatility and advanced safety features. Although Kia has not disclosed all available features for different markets, the expectation is that the U.S. version will include the most advanced technological offerings while omitting the manual transmission.
As the Seltos prepares for its launch, details regarding fuel economy and specific features will be released closer to the sales date. Kia’s commitment to maintaining affordability while enhancing the model’s appeal positions the new Seltos as a strong contender in the competitive SUV market.
