Dacono Councilman Kevin Plain Advocates for Community Growth
Kevin Plain, a member of the Dacono City Council and a resident for the past 20 years, is emphasizing the need for strategic growth in Dacono while preserving its small-town identity. With a solid background in software engineering and extensive community involvement, he is advocating for a balanced approach to development that aligns with residents’ desires.
Plain has been instrumental in various local initiatives, including his role in the Dacono Urban Renewal Authority, where he helped facilitate the purchase of a significant salvage lot along Colorado Boulevard. This area has been earmarked for future commercial development, which Plain believes will enhance local services and businesses. “It would be nice to have that space filled with shops and businesses providing the services we all want to have closer to us,” he remarked.
The city is also poised for transformation with plans to develop land surrounding the blue water tower into a new city center. Community input will be key in this process, as residents will have the opportunity to voice their preferences for new amenities, including restaurants, schools, and recreational facilities. “I personally would like to see a school, a library, and various fields for athletics and events,” Plain stated.
Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Plain envisions Dacono as a safe, walkable city with improved infrastructure and more educational facilities. He highlights the need for additional exits for residents of Sharpe Farms to ease congestion and improve accessibility. To alleviate traffic on Highway 52, he calls for more east-west roads to be paved, which would help distribute traffic more effectively across the city.
Plain also advocates for maintaining affordable utility rates, stating the importance of keeping water rates low while ensuring that all service providers offer competitive pricing. He identifies a pressing need for another K-8 school and the establishment of a high school within Dacono. The current infrastructure, especially on Highway 52, requires expansion and improvements for pedestrian safety.
In addition to educational facilities, he proposes recreational enhancements, including the addition of a water park and a skate park on the east side of the city, near the Glens neighborhood. Plain emphasizes the need for more restaurants and businesses throughout Dacono, particularly in areas like the Sweetgrass neighborhood, to create a vibrant community atmosphere.
As Dacono continues to develop, the challenge lies in balancing growth with the preservation of its unique character. Kevin Plain’s vision reflects a commitment to making Dacono an attractive place to live and work while ensuring that community values remain at the forefront of local decision-making.
