Brian Van Holt Reveals DiCaprio’s ‘P***y Posse’ Inspired His Role

Brian Van Holt recently disclosed that his character, Wylie Ford, in the iconic series Sex and the City was inspired by actor Leonardo DiCaprio and his infamous friend group, known colloquially as the “P***y Posse.” During an episode of Kristin Davis’ podcast, Are You a Charlotte, which aired on August 18, Van Holt explained how stories surrounding DiCaprio’s circle influenced his portrayal of the character.
The “P***y Posse” reportedly included notable figures such as Tobey Maguire, Lukas Haas, and Kevin Connolly. This group gained a reputation for their womanizing antics and outrageous pranks. Van Holt remarked that his performance as Wylie Ford allowed him to explore a side of his acting that he described as “channeling my inner douche bag.” He found the experience both creatively fulfilling and therapeutic.
In discussing his approach to the role, Van Holt humorously noted that he aimed to embody the character’s over-the-top nature by asking himself, “How can I be as douchey as possible? To represent something that I don’t really care for?” He mentioned that he conducted what he referred to as “a lot of research” to fully immerse himself in the character’s extravagant lifestyle.
Wylie Ford appeared in a storyline during the second season of Sex and the City as a celebrity heartthrob who briefly dated Charlotte York, portrayed by Kristin Davis. Their relationship quickly soured when Charlotte found herself uncomfortable with Ford’s sexual demands.
While Van Holt emphasized that the notorious group inspired his performance, he did not specify whether any particular member directly influenced his character. The show’s writers and producers, however, have yet to officially confirm the inspirations behind Wylie Ford.
As fans of Sex and the City continue to revisit the series, insights like these from Van Holt provide a fascinating glimpse into the creative process behind beloved characters.
