WVU Reunites Latimer Brothers as Experienced Cornerback Transfers In
West Virginia University (WVU) has strengthened its football roster by adding experienced cornerback Geimere Latimer, who transfers from the University of Wisconsin. This move reunites him with his younger brother, Amari Latimer, a newly signed four-star freshman running back. The Latimer brothers join another set of siblings, the Hawkins brothers, who were signed earlier in the day, signaling a notable recruitment strategy for the Mountaineers.
Geimere Latimer brings a wealth of experience as a defensive back. During the 2025 season, he played in ten games for the Badgers, recording 23 tackles and forcing one fumble. His collegiate career includes significant time spent under the guidance of Rich Rodriguez at Jacksonville State, where he played two seasons. In 2024, Latimer participated in all 14 games, achieving a total of 46 tackles, three interceptions, and six pass breakups.
His early college career also showcased his potential; as a freshman in 2023, he made an immediate impact by playing in all 13 games and starting twice at cornerback. During that season, he recorded ten tackles, forced a fumble, and secured one interception.
WVU’s need for depth in the secondary has become pressing, as many of its defensive backs have exhausted their eligibility. The addition of Geimere Latimer provides the Mountaineers with a seasoned option familiar with Rodriguez’s coaching style. This strategic move is part of a broader effort, as the team has already welcomed another defensive back, Maliek Hawkins, earlier the same day. Hawkins, who previously played for Oklahoma, adds to the team’s growing list of transfers.
In a matter of days, WVU has acquired a total of six transfers, with the most recent additions ranking the program at No. 30 nationally and 10th in the Big 12, according to 247Sports. Rodriguez had previously indicated during National Signing Day that the team would not pursue as many transfers as in the past, but recent player departures appear to have altered that approach significantly.
With Geimere Latimer now donning the Mountaineers’ colors alongside his brother, both players are poised to make a substantial impact in the upcoming season. The reunion not only strengthens the team but also adds a personal element to their shared pursuit of success on the field.
