Texas A&M University is poised to make significant changes to its tight end roster as Houston Thomas, a standout from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), has officially entered the transfer portal. This move comes as current tight ends Nate Boerkircher and Amari Niblack have declared for the NFL Draft after exhausting their collegiate eligibility.

With Boerkircher and Niblack leaving, the Aggies will need to bolster their tight end position. Incoming sophomore Kiotti Armstrong is expected to step up, but head coach Mike Elko will likely pursue experienced players to enhance the unit. Several promising candidates are already available in the transfer portal, including Benjamin Brahmer from Iowa State and Brody Foley from Tulsa, both of whom would require substantial investment but could significantly improve a crucial position in Texas A&M’s offense under new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins.

Houston Thomas: A Local Talent with Proven Skills

On Saturday, Houston Thomas, a native of College Station, announced his decision to enter the transfer portal after a successful four-year career with the Roadrunners. During his time at UTSA, Thomas amassed 918 yards and five touchdowns, consistently contributing with 34 receptions in each of his last two seasons. His impressive performance earned him above-average ratings from Pro Football Focus, including a 67.4 receiving grade and a 66.3 pass blocking grade.

Standing at 6’5″ and weighing nearly 250 pounds, Thomas is recognized for his strong receiving abilities. Unlike Boerkircher, who developed into a reliable blocker, Thomas has already established himself as a receiving threat, which could provide starting quarterback Marcel Reed with a valuable option in the passing game.

Thomas’s local ties and skill set make him an appealing candidate for Texas A&M as they look to strengthen their offensive lineup. The Aggies will be closely monitoring the transfer portal for additional talent as they prepare for the upcoming season.
