Tony Khan Confident About AEW’s Future Amid Discovery Sale Speculation
At the AEW Full Gear media scrum, held on Saturday in the United States, Tony Khan expressed confidence about the future of his wrestling promotion, All Elite Wrestling (AEW), amid rumors of a potential sale of Warner Bros. Discovery. Khan stated that he is “not worried at all” regarding the sale, emphasizing the strong relationship AEW has with Warner Bros. Discovery and his optimism about the organization’s direction.
In a lively session, wrestlers including Mark Briscoe, Ricochet, and Kris Statlander also addressed the media, sharing insights on their recent victories and future aspirations. Briscoe showcased a custom TNT title belt, a gift from Orange Cassidy, reflecting on his unexpected rise to prominence in the ring. Having previously been part of a tag team, Briscoe expressed gratitude towards his family, Khan, and God for his title win.
Khan highlighted the shift in AEW’s trajectory since the departure of former executives, thanking David Zaslav, head of Warner Bros. Discovery, for bringing in new leadership that has positively impacted the promotion. This change has coincided with AEW’s growing popularity and consistency in delivering compelling content across various platforms.
Exciting Developments in AEW
During the media scrum, Khan mentioned that the recent Casino Gauntlet match at Full Gear was one of the best yet, showcasing the talent and excitement that AEW continues to deliver. Statlander, who holds a championship title, expressed her desire for new challengers, revealing her competitive spirit as she questioned the identity of her next opponent.
Khan announced that details regarding the participants in the upcoming Continental Classic will be unveiled early in the coming week. He addressed concerns surrounding Jon Moxley, indicating that Moxley may not be cleared for competition due to injuries sustained during their last match. In a somber moment, he also extended condolences to the families of wrestling personalities Bob Caudle and George Tahinos, who recently passed away.
Reflecting on AEW’s progress over the past year, Khan noted the promotion’s consistency in delivering quality programming and events, claiming that it may be their biggest pay-per-view yet in the HBO Max era. He mentioned three breakout wrestlers to watch for in 2026, including Kevin Knight, Speedball Mike Bailey, and Willow Nightingale, highlighting the depth of talent within AEW.
Khan also discussed the potential for earlier start times for events, indicating that he is open to adjustments based on audience feedback. He stated that AEW is contracted for shows lasting three hours and forty-five minutes, affirming their commitment to providing an engaging experience for fans.
AEW’s Vision for the Future
When questioned about the influence of Mercedes Mone on the independent wrestling scene and AEW’s National title, Khan praised her contributions while emphasizing the broader landscape of international wrestling, including the successes of Ring of Honor (ROH) on platforms like YouTube. He revealed that promotions such as CMLL and NJPW have expressed interest in potential National title matches, indicating a willingness for cross-promotional collaboration.
Khan’s passion for wrestling was palpable as he shared his dedication to AEW, stating he has not taken a break from the sport in a long time and remains fully engaged with every event. He expressed excitement over securing licensed music for wrestler Hangman Page, noting the challenges involved in obtaining such rights.
As speculation surrounding Warner Bros. Discovery’s future continues, Khan’s commitment to AEW’s growth and success remains steadfast, with a clear vision for the organization moving forward.
