Real Madrid Targets Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton as Liverpool Moves for Leoni

Real Madrid is reportedly interested in acquiring Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, with scouts from the Spanish club closely monitoring the 21-year-old’s performances. Wharton has made a significant impact at Crystal Palace since joining from Blackburn Rovers in 2024, and his potential move could see competition from several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United.
Liverpool has also been active in the transfer market, having reached an agreement over personal terms with Giovanni Leoni, an 18-year-old defender from Parma. The club is preparing a bid valued at approximately €35 million for the young talent. Leoni is expected to sign a six-year contract at Anfield, solidifying Liverpool’s defensive line for the future.
Transfer Moves and Rumors Heat Up
In addition to the interest in Wharton, Newcastle United is considering a move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. Reports indicate that Newcastle views Mateta as a viable option to replace Alexander Isak, who has expressed a desire to leave the club for Liverpool. The Eagles are prepared to accept an offer of around £40 million for Mateta, who has scored 30 goals over the last two Premier League seasons.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott is open to a potential transfer to RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old played a pivotal role in England’s victory at the European Under-Championship this summer, but has found himself sidelined in Liverpool’s starting lineup. Elliott mentioned, “I don’t really want to be wasting years [of] my career because it’s a short career,” highlighting his eagerness for more playing time.
Newcastle is also intensifying efforts to sign Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa, with negotiations reportedly ongoing for a deal valued at £40 million. While West Ham United has shown interest in Ramsey, Newcastle’s hierarchy remains optimistic about securing his signature.
Confirmed Deals and Ongoing Negotiations
In confirmed transfer news, Newcastle United has successfully signed Germany international defender Malick Thiaw from AC Milan for a reported fee of £34.6 million, including add-ons. Additionally, former France youth international centre-back Bafodé Diakité has joined Bournemouth from Lille, further showcasing the activity in the transfer window.
Other notable rumors include Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is expected to remain with the club after rejecting a move to AC Milan. Inter Milan is reportedly open to offers for defender Benjamin Pavard, with a price range of €15 million to €25 million for the 29-year-old.
As the summer transfer window continues, clubs across Europe are actively seeking to bolster their squads, with ongoing negotiations and potential moves that could reshape the landscape of European football. The coming weeks will be crucial as teams finalize their rosters ahead of the new season.
