The New York Rangers will be without forward Vincent Trocheck for an extended period due to an upper-body injury. The team announced on October 11, 2025, that Trocheck is sidelined on a week-to-week basis after sustaining the injury during a game against the Buffalo Sabres. He missed the Rangers’ decisive 6-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on the same day.

Trocheck sustained the injury late in the second period of the Rangers’ recent shutout win over the Sabres, leaving the ice with 13:10 remaining. The team confirmed his absence shortly before the third period commenced. The 32-year-old forward had contributed one assist in the two games he played this season, averaging 14 minutes and 10 seconds of ice time.

Impact of Trocheck’s Absence

Throughout his 13-year career in the NHL, Trocheck has played for the Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Rangers, amassing 223 goals and 356 assists for a total of 579 points in 803 career games. He was originally selected in the third round, 64th overall, of the 2011 NHL Draft. The injury has snapped Trocheck’s impressive streak of 250 consecutive games played without missing time due to injury, marking the 15th-longest active streak in the league.

In Trocheck’s absence, Mika Zibanejad shifted back to the center position during the game against the Penguins. Juuso Parssinen stepped up to fill a spot on the third line, making a notable impact by recording an assist in his season debut. Despite the challenges posed by Trocheck’s injury, the Rangers showcased resilience in their first game without him.

Head coach Mike Sullivan emphasized Trocheck’s significance to the team, stating that he is integral to all situations, including power plays and penalty kills, as well as being part of their top six forward lineup. Alexis Lafreniere was elevated to the top power-play unit alongside Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin for the Penguins’ game.

While the Rangers managed a strong performance without Trocheck, his absence is felt deeply. The team will need to adapt quickly as they navigate the upcoming games without one of their key players.
