Mechanicville Dominates La Salle Institute to Reach Class B Semifinals
In a commanding performance, the Mechanicville High School girls’ soccer team triumphed over La Salle Institute with a decisive 3-0 victory in the Class B Section 2 playoff quarterfinals held on October 25, 2025. The Red Raiders, seeded No. 1, showcased their offensive prowess with three goals in the first half, securing their place in the semifinals.
Head coach George Dudas praised his team’s aggressive start, which was instrumental in establishing their dominance early in the match. Within the first six minutes, junior Gianna Pitts opened the scoring after a well-executed play. Pitts received a precise pass from teammate Tanner Eiseman, sprinted towards the goal, and found the bottom-left corner to put Mechanicville ahead.
Building Momentum
After the first goal, the Red Raiders maintained their momentum, quickly doubling their lead in the 17th minute. Eiseman once again made a significant impact, racing behind the Cadets’ defense to net Mechanicville’s second goal, further solidifying their advantage.
Mechanicville’s offensive strategy proved effective, as they continued to apply pressure throughout the first half. Pitts was involved in several near-goals, including a close miss in the 21st minute when her cross to senior Emma Andrews skipped past her teammate’s foot. In the 26th minute, Pitts struck the post with a powerful shot, but the relentless attack led to a third goal just before halftime. In the 38th minute, Andrews seized an opportunity when La Salle Institute’s goalkeeper ventured too far from her net, allowing Andrews to score with a shot that slowly crossed the line.
As the first half concluded, Mechanicville held a comfortable 3-0 lead, which they preserved through the second half. Although neither team scored afterward, Dudas highlighted the effectiveness of his defense, marking it as their ninth shutout of the season. “Defense wins at this time of the year,” he stated, noting that the team did not allow La Salle Institute many quality scoring chances.
Looking Ahead
With this victory, the Red Raiders advanced to the Class B semifinals, where they will face the No. 4-seeded Greenville on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in Niskayuna. Dudas, who has guided Mechanicville through several successful postseason runs, emphasized the importance of strategy in the upcoming match. “Play smart, play simple, and play aggressive,” he advised. “And then find the net. You got to have people to find the net.”
The Red Raiders will enter the semifinals with confidence, bolstered by their strong performance against La Salle Institute. As they prepare for the next challenge, the team aims to continue their winning streak and secure a place in the finals.
