High school football action on October 1 showcased impressive performances across various teams and players. Notable statistics emerged, highlighting the standout athletes in passing, rushing, receiving, scoring, kicking, and defensive plays.
Passing Leaders Shine
In the passing category, Burke Lowry from Fairview led the pack with an impressive total of 1,989 yards. Following closely was Blake Elder from Avon, accumulating 1,297 yards, while Moe Abdelhady of Westlake recorded 1,262 yards. Lowry also excelled in touchdowns, throwing for 23 touchdowns, which is significantly higher than his peers. Abdelhady trailed with 17 touchdowns, showcasing a competitive edge among the top quarterbacks.
Other notable performances included Cy Christensen from Amherst, who passed for 1,144 yards and 13 touchdowns, and Shay Williams from Midview, with 1,024 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Rushing Statistics: Ground Game Dominance
On the ground, Evan Kuhns from Vermilion topped the rushing charts with 1,017 yards on 86 carries. Marcus McMahon of Midview followed with 816 yards from 144 carries, demonstrating his capability to gain crucial yards for his team.
Other significant contributors included Owen Singleton from Olmsted Falls with 780 yards, and Zion Castillo of ECHS, who rushed for 536 yards on 127 attempts. This robust rushing effort highlights the effectiveness of these players in carrying their teams forward.
Receiving statistics also reflected impressive numbers, with Tristin Hughes from Rocky River leading in receptions and yards, totaling 245 yards on 24 receptions.
In terms of overall scoring, Marcus McMahon again made headlines, racking up 16 touchdowns, including a mix of two-point conversions. Tristin Hughes and Evan Kuhns each scored 12 touchdowns, proving critical in their teams’ offensive strategies.
Defensive Highlights
On the defensive side, Ari Wreyford from Wellington led with 7 sacks, while Ambrose Beach of Columbia followed closely with 6.5 sacks. These defensive statistics are crucial for assessing team dynamics and performance during the season.
