Fred Warner Eyes Return as 49ers Prepare for Seahawks Showdown
The San Francisco 49ers are poised for a significant boost as linebacker Fred Warner could make his return to the field if the team advances past the Seattle Seahawks in their upcoming playoff matchup. Head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed optimism about Warner’s potential return, stating that the goal is for him to participate in the next game, possibly the NFC Championship Game.
Warner’s practice window officially opens this week, allowing him to train with the team for a period of 21 days. This critical move provides the 49ers the flexibility to either activate him or place him on injured reserve. Warner, who dislocated and fractured his ankle during a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6, has been diligently rehabilitating, reportedly spending up to seven hours each day on his recovery.
In a video posted on social media, Warner showcased his progress by running and engaging in football activities, signaling his determination to return before the postseason concludes. Shanahan emphasized the importance of adhering to medical protocols, noting that Warner must meet specific physical benchmarks, including sprinting and jumping, before being cleared to play.
“He can’t think with his heart and emotionally,” Shanahan remarked, underlining the necessity for a cautious approach. “You ask doctors where he’s at, all the things these guys have to pass. He has to hit all those before we feel it’s safe.”
Despite the rigorous process, Warner is confident in his readiness. Shanahan acknowledged that Warner understands the coaching staff and front office are closely monitoring his recovery, alleviating the need for him to advocate for his return actively.
As the 49ers prepare for their divisional round clash with the Seahawks on January 14, 2024, the addition of Warner could significantly impact the team’s defensive strategy. The matchup promises to be a heated rematch as both teams vie for a spot in the next stage of the playoffs.
With Warner potentially back on the field, the 49ers are not only looking to advance but also aiming to capitalize on their defensive strengths as they face a formidable opponent in Seattle. The outcome of this game could set the stage for a thrilling playoff journey for the 49ers, making Warner’s return all the more crucial.
