Four-Star Quarterback Kavian Bryant Commits to Texas Tech
On the same day that Texas Tech faced Kansas State in a pivotal Big 12 matchup, the Red Raiders celebrated a significant recruitment victory. Four-star quarterback Kavian Bryant, ranked No. 47 in the ESPN Junior 300, announced his commitment to Texas Tech, solidifying his place as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
Bryant, a dual-threat passer from Palestine, Texas, is recognized as ESPN’s No. 2 overall quarterback in his class. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 180 pounds, he chose Texas Tech over other finalists including Texas, Florida State, and Colorado. In his own words, Bryant expressed, “They reached out the most. They came with the best offer and the best opportunity for me to play. I just feel like it’s the best fit.”
This commitment marks a significant milestone for the Red Raiders, as Bryant becomes their first offensive pledge and the fourth overall commitment in the 2027 class. He joins fellow top recruit and five-star defensive tackle Jalen Brewster, who made his commitment on October 4, 2023. Texas Tech is also bolstered by the recent commitment of five-star linebacker LaDamion Guyton, who reclassified to the 2026 cycle and debuted at No. 13 in the ESPN 300.
Over three seasons at Palestine Westwood High School, Bryant has demonstrated impressive statistics, throwing for 4,724 yards with 67 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions. He has also added 1,521 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground during his freshman and sophomore years. Although Texas Tech offered Bryant opportunities in both football and basketball, he has decided to focus exclusively on football at the collegiate level.
Bryant’s relationship with Texas Tech’s offensive coordinator, Mack Leftwich, played a pivotal role in his decision. He noted that Leftwich and head coach Joey McGuire’s consistent engagement and feedback on his performance were crucial. “They really, really wanted me,” Bryant stated. “They watch my film every day. They show me what I’m good at and what I’m bad at, and I just listen. It’s part of why they’re the best.”
Looking ahead, Bryant aims to help Texas Tech secure an elite recruiting class in 2027. He is enthusiastic about the prospect of leading his peers, stating, “I feel like I can go in there and lead a class. And whether it’s as a true freshman or the next year, I feel like I can go there and win a national championship.”
As the Red Raiders continue to build their 2027 recruiting class, they are expected to actively pursue other top talents, including defensive tackle Georgia Toia, wide receiver Julian Caldwell, and linebacker Kaden McCarty. With the commitment of Bryant, Texas Tech is positioning itself for a competitive future in college football.
Currently, Texas Tech’s 2026 class ranks No. 18 in ESPN’s latest rankings, bolstered by five-star commitments from Guyton and offensive tackle Felix Ojo. As the season progresses, the Red Raiders will be keen to capitalize on this momentum in both recruitment and gameplay.
