Edmond Kicks Off Holiday Season with Miracle on 2nd Street Events
Edmond has officially launched its annual holiday celebrations with the start of the Miracle on 2nd Street festivities. This year, the events are particularly special as they align with the upcoming centennial of the iconic Route 66, which runs along 2nd Street in the heart of the town. The City of Edmond has announced a series of activities designed to foster community spirit and create lasting memories during the holiday season.
The festivities commenced with the opening of the Edmond Ice Rink at Mitch Park, marking the beginning of a vibrant lineup of events that will continue through the new year. According to Jennifer Thornton, the Tourism Director for Visit Edmond, “Miracle on 2nd Street is all about creating memories with people you cherish.” This sentiment reflects the event’s goal to bring the community together in celebration.
Upcoming Events and Activities
Among the highlights of the Miracle on 2nd Street festivities is the Deck the Downtown Tree Lighting event scheduled for November 13. Attendees can look forward to a magical experience featuring Santa Claus, live reindeer, and festive caroling. The event promises to be a delightful occasion for families and children alike.
Other scheduled activities include the Luminance: An Enchanted Stroll at Mitch Park, which will showcase beautiful light displays. On Thanksgiving morning, the community can participate in the Turkey Trot 5K & 1 Mile Walk, promoting health and wellness during the holiday season. Additionally, local businesses will host Small Business Saturday shopping events, encouraging residents to support their local economy.
Families can also enjoy free horse-drawn carriage rides on select dates in December, providing a nostalgic way to experience the festive atmosphere of Edmond. For those looking to meet Santa, he will be available for visits at Citizens Bank downtown, while an Indoor Farmers Market will offer fresh produce and local goods.
Special Offerings and Community Involvement
In a unique twist, local candle maker Thomas Blonde has created a special ‘miracle candle’ available at Silver Leaf Gems and Frenzy Brewing, adding a local touch to the holiday celebrations. This initiative highlights the commitment of local artisans to contribute to the community’s festive spirit.
Organizers are encouraging local organizations and businesses to submit their public holiday events for inclusion on the Visit Edmond website, helping to ensure that all community activities are well-promoted. More information about the Miracle on 2nd Street festivities can be found on the dedicated page of the City of Edmond’s website.
As the holiday season unfolds, Edmond’s Miracle on 2nd Street festivities promise to deliver joy, connection, and a celebration of community spirit, all while honoring the rich history of Route 66.
