Eagles right guard Tyler Steen has been fined a total of $16,870 for his involvement in a brawl against the Washington Commanders during a game on December 23, 2023. The incident occurred in the fourth quarter after the Eagles secured a two-point conversion, extending their lead to 19 points. Emotions escalated rapidly, leading to a confrontation on the field.

Steen received two separate fines: one for unnecessary roughness and another for unsportsmanlike conduct, each amounting to $8,435. He was ejected from the game along with Commanders players Javon Kinlaw and Quan Martin, who were also involved in the altercation. In total, four players from the Commanders were fined for their participation in the brawl.

Reflecting on the incident, Steen stated, “Nobody really said anything specific, at least not that I remember. I just remember after the play there was a lot of commotion and things escalated pretty quickly and then got out of hand.” He acknowledged that emotions were running high, particularly as the Eagles were comfortably ahead in the game.

The Eagles emerged victorious with a score of 29-18 against the Commanders, but the tension on the field highlighted the competitive nature of both teams. Following the game, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni addressed the brawl during a press conference, emphasizing the importance of maintaining composure in heated moments. “We want to play fast and physical and we want to be able to do that all within the rules of the game,” Sirianni said.

Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to face the Buffalo Bills in Buffalo this Sunday. They will also host the Commanders again in a rematch during Week 18. Although the Eagles are likely to secure a playoff spot, the Commanders have already been eliminated from postseason contention. Nonetheless, the potential for another heated encounter remains, as both teams seek to assert their dominance.

Sirianni reiterated the need for discipline among players, stating, “I understand that the game gets chippy at times, but we always want to make sure we’re keeping our cool in those scenarios because we need everybody and you got to play within the rules of the game.”

As the regular season draws to a close, the focus will be on how both teams handle the pressure and intensity of their remaining matches. Fans will be watching closely to see if tempers flare again when these rivals meet once more.
