Dale Earnhardt Jr. Reflects on Life-Changing Marriage to Amy

Dale Earnhardt Jr. recently shared how his marriage to wife Amy Earnhardt has significantly transformed his life for the better. The couple, who have been married for nearly a decade, are raising two daughters, Isla Rose and Nicole Lorraine. Their relationship began in 2009, but they kept it private for over two years before officially appearing together at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champions Week Awards Ceremony in December 2011. Together, they have now been a couple for more than 16 years.
For Earnhardt Jr., the impact of Amy extends beyond companionship; she has fulfilled his lifelong desire to have a family. He has frequently discussed the positive changes her presence has brought to his life, particularly during challenging times. In addition to supporting him through the physical and emotional challenges resulting from his racing career and concussion struggles, Amy has been a vital source of strength as he copes with the deep grief of losing his father, legendary driver Dale Earnhardt Sr..
Former NASCAR driver and commentator Darrell Waltrip acknowledged this transformation as well. In a 2014 interview with The Washington Post, Waltrip remarked, “I think he’s real content right now. It’s not just in his racing life but in his personal life. His girlfriend [Amy Reimann] has had a big influence on him and really brought him out of that little boy shell he lived in.”
In a recent episode of Dinner Drive with Kyle Petty, Earnhardt Jr. reiterated Waltrip’s observations, attributing much of his growth to his commitment to Amy. He stated, “Ever since I made that decision to marry Amy and totally devote myself to her and become a better man and become the husband I need to be.”
He elaborated on the transformative power of love in his life, saying, “When you make that choice to sort of turn loose of that past life and that person you used to be, you make that real commitment. I mean, it only made my life better, you know? It only made me happier. It only made me more comfortable.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr. expressed that finding someone he wanted to marry and start a family with was a pivotal moment. He described Amy as an incredible influence, stating, “She has changed my life in so many ways.”
One of the most profound changes he noted is the overwhelming love that now fills their home. “Every day when I get up, I feel loved,” he shared, recalling a time when solitude was prevalent in his life. With their daughters growing up, he believes the love within their household continues to grow stronger.
As he navigates life with three women at home, including Amy and their two daughters, Dale Jr. looks forward to the evolving family dynamic. He feels that as his daughters mature and begin to understand who he is and what their family life represents, the bond of love will deepen further with each passing day.
This reflection on his marriage emphasizes not only personal growth but also the importance of family in shaping one’s identity and happiness.
