Caldwell’s Hornet football team marked a significant milestone during their Homecoming game, defeating the Giddings Buffaloes 44-14 in a District 11-4A Division II matchup at Hornet Stadium. This victory ended a long-standing 28-game losing streak in district play, with the last win dating back to 2019 when Caldwell triumphed over Brookshire-Royal with a score of 26-18.

The standout performer of the match was Coy Becka, who rushed for an impressive 200 yards and scored three touchdowns. Alongside him, Korbin Burns contributed significantly with 259 total yards and four touchdowns, ensuring that Caldwell (3-2) built a commanding 38-7 lead by halftime. Burns showcased his versatility with 98 rushing yards on just five carries, including touchdown runs of 8, 27, and 48 yards. Becka also had notable touchdown runs of 5, 26, and 78 yards. Meanwhile, the Brenham Cubs secured a decisive 48-0 victory against the Waco Lions in their 10-5A Division II opener. Brenham (6-0) took a commanding 42-0 lead by halftime. In another District 13-3A Division II opener, the Lexington Eagles triumphed over the Thrall Tigers with a score of 34-17. The Eagles, currently ranked fourth in the state, took an early lead thanks to Weston Bayer, who returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown. Senior quarterback Kase Evans had a standout night, throwing four touchdown passes and completing 7 of 14 for 235 yards, including a remarkable 99-yard touchdown pass to Trip Kellenberger.

Finally, the Brazos Christian Eagles secured a narrow 14-6 victory against Hallettsville Sacred Heart in their TAPPS Division IV District 2 opener. The game was tightly contested, with Sacred Heart narrowing the gap to 7-6 thanks to a 12-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. However, Brazos Christian responded with a crucial 60-yard touchdown pass from Hudson Jacobus to Reed Jackson, sealing their victory.
