Brewers Face Elimination After Stumbling in NLCS Against Dodgers
The Milwaukee Brewers have placed themselves in a challenging position in the National League Championship Series (NLCS) after falling to the Los Angeles Dodgers, marking an 0-3 deficit. In Game 3, the Brewers’ offense struggled once again, failing to back a strong pitching performance from Jacob Misiorowski. While the Brewers’ pitchers have effectively contained the Dodgers’ formidable lineup, the team’s inability to produce runs has led to their downward spiral in the playoffs.
Despite Milwaukee’s recent history, which includes a poor performance on the road, the real issue lies in their struggles at home. The Brewers have now lost ten consecutive playoff games on the road, but it is their inability to capitalize on home-field advantage that has repeatedly cost them in October. The losses in Games 1 and 2 at American Family Field have left the Brewers with an uphill battle. In playoff history, only three of 27 teams that have faced a 0-2 deficit at home in a best-of-seven series have managed to recover.
The Brewers take pride in boasting the best regular season road record in Major League Baseball (MLB). Yet, entering the NLCS against the Dodgers without a win thus far feels like a looming disaster. In contrast, the Toronto Blue Jays managed to even their series against the Seattle Mariners after winning two straight games on the road, highlighting the stark difference in performance.
Reflecting on recent playoff history, the Brewers’ struggles at home have been evident. In the 2023 Wild Card Round, they lost two out of three games to the New York Mets at home. The following season, they suffered a 2-0 sweep against the Arizona Diamondbacks at the same venue. Although Milwaukee was successful in the 2025 National League Division Series, sweeping the Chicago Cubs at home, their past failures raise concerns as they now face elimination.
The Brewers’ playoff woes date back to the 2018 National League Championship Series against the Dodgers, where they had a chance to win Game 7 at home but succumbed to a 5-1 defeat. Given their current predicament, it appears unlikely that this series will return to Milwaukee.
One cannot overlook the weight of the current 10-game road losing streak. If the Brewers had managed to secure just a split at home, they would not be staring down the barrel of elimination. For a third consecutive October, this failure to perform at home is poised to end their season. As they prepare for Game 4, the pressure mounts, and the team must find a way to break free from this troubling trend if they hope to keep their championship aspirations alive.
