Bengals Secure Narrow Season-Opening Win Against Cleveland

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Bengals opened their 2025 NFL season with a hard-fought victory, defeating the Cleveland Browns 17-16 on September 10, 2025. Despite a lackluster performance in the second half, where the Bengals’ offense managed only seven yards and recorded a historic low of -18 yards in the fourth quarter, the team celebrated its first win of the season.
Head coach Zac Taylor addressed his players in the locker room after the game, emphasizing the importance of overcoming adversity. “Last night we said we’re going to face some adversity,” Taylor told the team. “We knew there were times this thing was going to be ugly. We just had to find a way to win. And you guys did the little things that allowed us to be 1-0.”
The Bengals’ defense played a crucial role in securing the victory, stepping up in the fourth quarter with multiple key stops. Taylor recognized their efforts, highlighting that the win sets a foundation for future improvement. “Offense, we left a lot of meat on the bone, and we know that,” he said. “Today, the defense put this game on their shoulders in the fourth quarter.”
Looking ahead, Cincinnati will face the 1-0 Jackson team next week. Taylor expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to evolve over the course of the season. “We’re not going to be the same team in Week 5, Week 12, or the Super Bowl,” he stated. “But starting 1-0 gives us our best chance to be our best version of ourselves as this thing moves forward.”
