Barbe Girls Soccer Team Secures Win Despite First Home Goal Conceded
The Barbe girls soccer team faced a challenge on January 22, 2026, as they conceded their first goal at home this season. Despite this setback, they achieved a 2-1 victory against Alexandria, extending their winning streak to six games and maintaining a perfect home record of 7-0.
Head coach Kassidy Guillory expressed a mix of relief and determination following the match. “We are still winning, so we will take that,” she stated. “It wasn’t our best showing, but we got the job done. We got the win, and that is what matters moving on.” The Bucs, now with a record of 15 wins, 5 losses, and 3 draws, have dominated opponents at home, outscoring them 23-1.
Upcoming Challenges for Barbe
With the regular season drawing to a close, Barbe looks to solidify its standing as they prepare for two top-10 opponents next week. On January 27, they will face St. Louis Catholic (10-7-2), currently ranked No. 8 in Division III, at McNeese State. Following that, they will host Captain Shreve (18-5-2), ranked No. 10 in Division I, on January 29.
“I am still feeling pretty good going into the last few games, and we still think we are going to make a run in the playoffs and rally back after this one,” Guillory added, indicating her confidence in the team’s potential.
In their match against Alexandria, the Bucs started strong, leading 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals from juniors Jane Casanova and Madi Doumite, who netted her 13th goal of the season. However, Alexandria’s Olivia Bordelon managed to score in the 56th minute, capitalizing on a free kick delivered by Chaselyn Guillory. This marked a significant moment for the Barbe defense, which had not allowed a goal at home until this match.
Despite the pressure, Barbe had multiple opportunities to extend their lead in the second half. They earned three corner kicks and took two free kicks within the first 24 minutes after halftime. In the closing moments of the game, Doumite nearly scored again with a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard box, but it was deflected off the crossbar by Alexandria’s goalkeeper, Chloe Taylor.
Guillory noted the team’s mixed performance: “We started the game pretty strong, and we ended the game pretty strong. In the middle, we kind of lost our way a bit. I think once that goal went in for the first time at home, it kind of deflated us for a second. It took a second to get back going again.”
As the Bucs continue their season, their focus remains on building momentum and preparing for the challenges ahead. The next matches will be crucial as they aim for success in the upcoming playoffs.
