Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning underwent a minor foot surgery this week as a precautionary measure, the university announced on Friday. This procedure addresses a prior injury, although the specific nature of the injury has not been disclosed. Manning is expected to return for spring football activities.

In the 2025 season, Manning established himself as the Longhorns’ full-time starter, leading the team to a commendable 10-3 record. He played all 13 games, amassing 3,163 yards and throwing 26 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. Additionally, he contributed significantly on the ground, ranking as the team’s second-leading rusher with 399 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.

Despite a challenging start to the season, Manning rebounded strongly, accounting for 20 touchdowns with only two turnovers over the final six games. His performance culminated in a remarkable finish, including victories over Texas A&M and a ranked Michigan team in the Citrus Bowl, where he earned MVP honors.

Offseason Surgeries and Team Outlook

Manning is among six players from the Longhorns who have undergone offseason surgeries for various injuries. Receivers Ryan Wingo (wrist) and Emmett Mosley V (ankle), left tackle Trevor Goosby (shoulder), linebacker Ty’Anthony Smith (shoulder), and defensive back Xavier Filsaime (shoulder) have also had procedures. The university has stated that all of these players are expected to be fully healthy by the start of the upcoming season.

Despite finishing No. 12 in the final Associated Press Top 25, the Longhorns missed out on the College Football Playoff after starting the 2025 season ranked No. 1. With high expectations for the 2026 season, Texas has already begun preparations, debuting at No. 5 in The Athletic’s Way-Too-Early Top 25.

The Longhorns will not only return key players like Manning, Wingo, Goosby, and edge rusher Colin Simmons but have also bolstered their roster through the transfer portal. Notable additions include Auburn receiver Cam Coleman, running backs Hollywood Smothers (NC State) and Raleek Brown (Arizona State), Pitt linebacker Rasheem Biles, and Wake Forest offensive tackle Melvin Siani, creating what is considered one of the best transfer classes in the nation.

As the Longhorns gear up for what promises to be an exciting season, Manning’s recovery will be closely monitored as he aims to lead Texas back to championship contention.
