Angel Reese Faces One-Game Suspension Following Technical Foul

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has been suspended for one game following her eighth technical foul of the season. This decision comes just a day after she made critical comments about her team, which reportedly upset her teammates. Reese received the technical foul during a recent match against the Connecticut Sun, resulting in her absence from the upcoming game against the Indiana Fever unless the suspension is overturned.

The incident that led to her suspension occurred with less than a minute remaining in the second quarter, when Reese hit Aaliyah Edwards in the head while attempting to secure a rebound. As of now, Reese leads the WNBA in technical fouls this year, indicating a challenging season for the second-year player.

Despite the Sky’s impressive 88-64 victory over the Sun, the team is struggling in the league standings, currently holding a record of 10-30, placing them in 12th place, just above the Dallas Wings, who have a record of 9-32. The WNBA announced the suspension, stating, “A player or coach is automatically suspended without pay for one game upon receiving an eighth technical foul during the regular season.” Reese’s suspension will take effect on September 5, 2025.

As the Chicago Sky has only four games left this season, Reese recently expressed her views on the team’s deficiencies, leading to tensions among players. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, she stated, “I am very vocal about what we need and what I want. I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.”

Reese’s comments suggest that significant changes may be necessary for the Sky during the upcoming off-season to retain their star player. She pointed out the need for younger talent, specifically mentioning the challenges of relying on veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot, who is currently recovering from an ACL injury. “We can’t rely on Courtney to come back at the age that she’s at,” Reese noted. “We need someone probably a little younger with some experience.”
