Angel City Football Club Bolsters Roster with Three New Signings
Angel City Football Club has made significant strides in its offseason roster development by signing three free agents within two days, enhancing their squad ahead of the upcoming season. On Tuesday, Angel City announced the signing of midfielder Ary Borges to a three-year contract. Borges previously played for Racing Louisville FC, where she featured in 53 matches and scored six goals over the past three seasons. Before her tenure in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), Borges had an impressive spell at Palmeiras, netting 34 goals in three seasons.
Borges has also represented the Brazilian national team, earning 49 caps. Commenting on the new signing, Angel City Sporting Director Mark Parsons praised Borges’s talent, stating, “She is a brave talent who always wants the ball and to control the game while also being relentless in defending and not giving her opponents a rest.” He highlighted her experience in high-pressure situations, noting that she is a dynamic box-to-box midfielder with both NWSL and international experience.
The following day, Angel City further strengthened its defense by signing Karsyn Cherry to a three-year deal. Cherry, who made 69 appearances during her four-year career at Louisville, is recognized for her ability to contribute both defensively and offensively. Parsons described Cherry as “a ball-playing defender with a great range of passing as well as an ability to dictate play,” emphasizing her tenacity in one-on-one situations and her dominance in defensive duels.
In addition to Borges and Cherry, Angel City also secured a contract with Carina Lageyre, a midfielder who played four seasons at Duke University and made 65 appearances. Lageyre expressed her excitement about joining the club and the vision presented by Parsons and Head Coach Alex Straus. She stated, “I chose Angel City because I want to develop in a competitive training environment with a strong fan base. This team provides all the resources for us to be successful and I’m looking forward to making this city proud.”
With these new additions, Angel City Football Club’s roster now stands at 21 players. Training for the 2026 NWSL season is set to commence later this month, as the team prepares for a competitive year ahead. The strategic signings reflect Angel City’s commitment to building a strong team capable of making a significant impact in the league.
