SpaceX Successfully Launches 24 Starlink Satellites from California

SpaceX achieved another milestone on August 30, 2025, with the successful launch of 24 Starlink broadband satellites from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base. The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at 12:59 a.m. EDT (03:59 GMT), marking a significant step in the expansion of SpaceX’s satellite internet constellation.
The rocket, carrying its payload of Starlink satellites, saw its first stage, designated Booster 1082, return to Earth approximately 8.5 minutes after liftoff. It landed safely on the SpaceX drone ship named “Of Course I Still Love You” in the ocean. This launch marked the 15th successful mission for Booster 1082, as detailed in a SpaceX mission briefing.
Details of the Launch
While the reuse of Booster 1082 is notable, it falls short of SpaceX’s record of 30 successful missions for a single Falcon 9 booster, achieved just two days prior on August 28 during another Starlink launch. Today’s mission aims to deploy the satellites into low Earth orbit approximately 62.5 minutes after launch, further enhancing the Starlink network.
The Falcon 9 mission on August 30 represents the 107th flight of the Falcon 9 rocket in 2025 alone. Over 70% of these missions have focused on expanding the Starlink megaconstellation, which is the largest collection of satellites ever assembled. As of now, the constellation consists of over 8,200 operational satellites, a number that continues to grow as SpaceX works to improve global internet access.
Broader Context and Future Plans
In addition to its Starlink missions, SpaceX has conducted four test flights of its Starship rocket this year. These tests are crucial for the company’s ambition to enable human settlement on the Moon and Mars. The latest Starship test flight, which took place on August 26, was reported as a complete success.
