Remembering William (Bill) Plant: A Life of Service and Love
William (Bill) Plant, a dedicated husband, father, and community servant, passed away in Torrance, California. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Bill’s journey was marked by a deep commitment to service and a profound love for his family.
Bill served as a radioman in the United States Coast Guard, where he was stationed in various locations, including Newfoundland, California, and the South Pacific. In the spring of 1962, while stationed at the Point Vicente Lighthouse, he met Jeannine, the love of his life, during a trip to Redondo Beach. The couple married later that year in December and enjoyed an enduring partnership that lasted 63 years, built on friendship and mutual support.
After his military service, Bill transitioned to a career with the Redondo Beach Police Department, where he served the community for nearly three decades. His dedication to law enforcement was only matched by his passion for family life and the natural environment.
While stationed on the small island of Ulithi, Jeannine purchased their forever home in South Redondo. Together, they created a nurturing environment filled with laughter and love. Bill took great pleasure in maintaining their house and cultivating a garden that attracted hummingbirds and monarch butterflies. He was an avid reader and enjoyed observing ocean wildlife from the Esplanade.
Bill’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Jeannine; their children, Nathan (Jennifer), Adam (Miki), and Sara (Sam); his sister, Virginia (Richard); as well as extended family and friends.
In honor of Bill’s remarkable life and legacy, a private celebration will be held at a later date. His contributions to both his family and the community will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
