Remembering Arturo O. Valencia: A Life of Family and Achievement
Arturo O. Valencia, affectionately known as “Art,” passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family. His life was marked by dedication to his loved ones, hard work, and a deep sense of community. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nellie Valencia, with whom he shared over 73 years of marriage, raising four children together: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo.
A Legacy of Family and Passion
Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, Art epitomized resilience and commitment. He cherished his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, leaving behind a legacy that continues through numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Tito and Choco, and was preceded in death by his sister, Lola Gonzalez, and brothers Alex, Raymond, and John.
Art’s interests extended beyond family. He found joy in camping at Glen Ivy, creating lasting memories with his loved ones. An enthusiastic bowler, he participated for over 40 years at the Bowl-O-Drome and later at Gardena Bowl. His competitive spirit also shone through in men’s softball leagues at Torrance Park during the 1960s, and he built a reputation as a skilled pool player, winning numerous tournaments in Torrance.
Career and Contributions
Art’s professional journey began after his family relocated to Torrance, where he was raised in the tight-knit community of La Rana. He attended Torrance High School and later dedicated two decades to Soule’ Steel in Carson. He then excelled as a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas, receiving accolades for his precision and work ethic. A self-made man, Art transformed his modest beginnings into a life filled with love and accomplishment.
In his spare time, Art took great pride in restoring and maintaining his home, with each project reflecting his craftsmanship and dedication. A voracious reader, he was a lifelong subscriber to the Daily Breeze, taking special pride in the fact that his sons once delivered the paper. His passion for the written word was a testament to his love for learning and sharing knowledge.
Though Arturo O. Valencia is no longer with us, his spirit endures through the stories shared by those who loved him. His lessons, values, and the love he freely gave will remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 4 PM on October 27, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church of Torrance, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Art’s remarkable life and legacy.
