Jose, a 16-year-old with aspirations to become an auto mechanic, is currently seeking a permanent family through the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE). Known for his strengths in math and physics, Jose describes himself as “extremely competitive” but also quick to share a laugh. As he waits for his forever family, he expressed a desire for a supportive home, stating, “I feel good when I’m helping people,” and emphasized the importance of being heard, saying he wants “a family that’s willing to hear my side of things.”

The Wednesday’s Child initiative, a partnership among MARE, the Department of Children & Families, and WBZ-TV/CBS Boston, has been instrumental in raising awareness about adoption from foster care. Since its inception in 1981, the program has highlighted the stories of children who are often overlooked in the adoption process. The weekly series, which has been hosted by Jack Williams for over three decades, aims to connect these children with potential adoptive families.

The impact of Wednesday’s Child is significant; it has successfully helped find homes for hundreds of children in need. As the program continues its mission, it also serves to educate the public about the challenges faced by children in foster care.

Current anchor and Emmy Award-winning journalist Paula Ebben, who co-anchors WBZ-TV News at 5:30 p.m., has also been involved in the series, contributing to its ongoing success. Ebben reports across all newscasts, bringing attention to various issues, including adoption and education.

Families interested in learning more about Jose or other children in the program can contact MARE at 617-964-MARE (6273) or visit the organization’s website at www.mareinc.org. As Jose continues to wait for a loving family, his story reflects the ongoing need for awareness and action in the realm of foster care adoption.
