Zohran Mamdani officially became New York City’s 112th mayor shortly after midnight on Thursday during a private ceremony. A public inauguration ceremony is set to take place later today at 1 p.m. at City Hall, where both Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Comptroller-elect Mark Levine will also be sworn in.

The public ceremony will welcome attendees both in person and online, allowing citizens to participate in this significant civic moment. For those unable to attend in person, Mamdani’s transition team has confirmed that the event will be livestreamed. Interested viewers can visit luma.com/inauguration to register and receive livestream instructions via email prior to the ceremony. Additionally, CBS News New York is expected to provide coverage of the event.

How to Attend the Inauguration

For those wishing to attend the inauguration in person, an RSVP is required for the inauguration block party. Participants can gather along Broadway from Liberty Street to Murray Street. Security measures will be in effect, including bag checks at the entrance. Attendees are advised to arrive at the Liberty Street and Broadway entrance between 11 a.m. and noon to ensure they can access the event smoothly.

Public transportation is strongly recommended for reaching the inauguration block party. The MTA has announced temporary changes to subway service, with R trains skipping City Hall in both directions. W trains will not be operational, and the Fulton Street and Park Place station exits on Broadway will be closed. City Hall Plaza and Park will also not be accessible from the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station.

Subway riders are encouraged to use alternative stations such as Wall Street for the 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains, Broad Street for J and Z trains, Rector for R and 1 trains, and Fulton for 4 and 5 trains. This guidance aims to facilitate access to the event while ensuring public safety and order.

As New Yorkers prepare to celebrate this significant change in leadership, the inauguration of Zohran Mamdani marks a new chapter for the city, one that many citizens are eager to witness firsthand.
