Volunteers Needed for National Voter Registration Day in Cupertino

The League of Women Voters of Cupertino-Sunnyvale is actively seeking volunteers for National Voter Registration Day on September 16, 2023. Local residents are encouraged to step up and assist at the voter registration and information table located at the Cupertino Library. This initiative aims to enhance voter registration and education within the community.
Volunteers will play a crucial role in helping individuals understand the voting process and the importance of participation. Those interested can sign up for shifts through a dedicated link: https://bit.ly/3UuWkrQ. Training will be provided to ensure that all volunteers are well-equipped to assist. For any inquiries, individuals can reach out to Pam at [email protected].
Community Events Promoting Peace and Support
In addition to voter registration efforts, the Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister Cities, Inc. recently held its sixth annual Bell Ringing for World Peace ceremony on August 6. The event featured notable speakers such as Mayor Liang Chao and Deputy Consul General Takashi Ishihara, who emphasized the importance of unity and peace.
During the ceremony, Stacy Yao, Superintendent of the Cupertino Union School District, and student representative Vihaan Shah also contributed to the discussions. Nanami Sugimoto, a local resident and participant in the NorCal Cherry Blossom Festival Queen Program, presented a handcrafted senbazuru, or a thousand origami cranes, symbolizing hope and renewal. This poignant gesture served as a reminder for attendees to reaffirm their wishes for lasting peace.
Volunteer Opportunities for Community Resilience
Furthermore, the Collaborating Agencies’ Disaster Relief Effort (CADRE) has launched its Community Support Networks for Resilience Project in Santa Clara County. This initiative aims to recruit 1,000 volunteers aged 55 and over to establish 20 discipline-specific community support networks. These networks will focus on enhancing organizational capacity in areas such as access and equity, health services, and emergency planning.
Sponsored by AmeriCorps’ Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the project seeks to create pre-emergency awareness and communication processes that can be activated during disasters. Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage both virtually and in person, contributing to local emergency planning and network building.
For more information about becoming a CADRE volunteer, interested individuals can contact [email protected]. This collaborative effort highlights the importance of community involvement and preparedness in facing future challenges.
