Approximately 6,000 locomotive engineers at Union Pacific have ratified a new five-year contract, securing significant pay increases and enhanced benefits. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), part of the Teamsters Rail Conference, announced the results of the vote on October 3, 2025.

“This agreement delivers much needed pay increases and closes this round of bargaining without any concessions to work rules,” stated Mark Wallace, President of the Teamsters Rail Conference. The contract not only addresses wage concerns but also focuses on quality-of-life improvements, such as meal allowances and the preservation of the 11/4 work-rest agreement.

Union Pacific locomotive engineers will receive a total pay increase of 18.8 percent over the duration of the contract. In addition to wage increases, the agreement includes improved health and welfare benefits and streamlined vacation accrual policies.

“The locomotive engineers are the backbone of Union Pacific and critical to America’s economy,” noted Kevin Sexton, BLET National Vice President. “This agreement secures fair raises, stronger benefits, and protections that reflect the value of our members’ work.”

This contract ratification is part of a larger trend, with nearly 30,000 Teamsters railroaders ratifying new contracts since the beginning of 2025. Notably, over 12,600 of these contracts are from Union Pacific alone.

Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents approximately 1.3 million working individuals across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. For further information, visit Teamster.org or follow the organization on social media platforms like X and Facebook.

The ratification represents a significant achievement for the BLET and its members, reflecting ongoing efforts to secure fair compensation and improved working conditions for locomotive engineers.
