San Diego Opens Applications for $11.3 Million Arts Funding

San Diego has officially opened the application period for its 2026-27 arts and culture funding, aimed at supporting local nonprofit organizations and cultural projects. Applications must be submitted by 8 a.m. on November 13, 2026. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the city’s vibrant arts scene, funded through the Transient Occupancy Tax, which is collected from visitors staying in local accommodations.
The annual funding program is designed to strengthen the arts and culture ecosystem in San Diego. According to Christina Bibler, the city’s economic development director, “The city’s funding strengthens a dynamic and diverse arts and culture ecosystem.” She emphasized that investments in local organizations and the artists they engage contribute to both the economic vitality and the cultural richness of San Diego.
In July, the San Diego Economic Development Department’s Division of Cultural Affairs announced a remarkable allocation of over $11.3 million for arts, culture, and creativity for the fiscal year 2026. This funding was distributed among 189 nonprofit organizations, reflecting a significant commitment to the local cultural landscape.
“By launching our arts and culture funding opportunities for fiscal year 2027, the city reaffirms its commitment to strategic investments in the cultural and creative sector,” stated Christine E. Jones from the Division of Cultural Affairs. She highlighted that these efforts not only generate jobs and stimulate the local economy but also enhance access to various arts and cultural experiences.
The funding will support a wide range of programs, including film screenings, exhibitions, performances, festivals, parades, and other artistic projects. “We are cultivating social and cultural impact while enhancing the overall well-being of both San Diegans and visitors,” added Jones.
Nonprofits interested in applying for this funding can find more information and access the application process by visiting sandiego.gov/cultural-affairs. The city encourages all eligible organizations to seize this opportunity to contribute to the flourishing arts scene in San Diego.
