Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed challenges in reaching a consensus for peace with Ukraine, citing disagreements with proposals from a recent U.S. peace plan. The comments follow a meeting at the Kremlin with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, where discussions about the ongoing conflict took place.

Putin revealed that the current U.S. proposal is structured into 27 points divided into four sections, with plans to discuss each section separately. In contrast, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that there are only 20 points in the draft plan following his earlier discussions with U.S. representatives in Geneva.

The meeting between Putin and the U.S. officials lasted several hours, as Russia had not yet reviewed all the latest proposals. Putin characterized the dialogue as a “necessary conversation” given the complexity of the issues at hand.

Ukrainian negotiators are preparing to return to the United States for further talks on the peace proposals after their meeting in Moscow. Reports suggest that a planned meeting in Europe between Witkoff, Kushner, and Zelensky was cancelled following the Kremlin discussions.

Putin is currently on a trip to India, where the country’s oil purchases have provided crucial support for the Russian economy, which is facing sanctions. However, these purchases have drawn scrutiny from former President Donald Trump, who has threatened to impose secondary tariffs in response to ongoing tensions related to the Ukraine war.

As the situation continues to evolve, updates on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the pursuit of peace agreements remain critical.
