Lorain Mayor Highlights 2025 Achievements, Sets Goals for 2026
Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley presented a comprehensive overview of his administration’s achievements from 2025 and outlined ambitious goals for 2026 during a recent City Council meeting. This annual report, delivered on January 5, emphasized the progress made by various departments in Lorain, which boasts a population of 65,211 and is recognized as one of the most diverse cities in the United States.
Accomplishments and Future Goals
As mandated by City Council Rule 13, which requires elected officials to provide annual reports, Bradley detailed successes across numerous sectors, including public safety, urban planning, and community services. The report included a booklet that categorized the accomplishments and goals of departments such as building, police, engineering, human resources, and parks and recreation.
Notable achievements highlighted by the mayor included successful road projects led by Lorain City Engineer Dale Vandersommen, who maximized funding for infrastructure improvements. The Engineering Department made significant progress on interconnection projects, while the Building, Housing, and Planning Department enhanced internal policies and procedures.
The Parks and Recreation Department initiated the “Living Legacy” tree planting campaign, aiming to enhance green spaces within the city. As for upcoming projects, the Lorain streets department plans to continue paving Root Road, notorious for being one of the bumpiest roads in the area, alongside a continuation of the spot concrete repair program.
Community Safety and Economic Development
Mayor Bradley also addressed the tragic loss of Officer Phillip C. Wagner, who was killed in a July 23 attack on police officers. The day following his death has been designated as “Officer Phillip C. Wagner Day” in Lorain, recognizing the city’s commitment to supporting the police department’s wellness initiatives and improving equipment.
The Lorain Fire Department reported lower overtime costs in 2025, the hiring of new administrative staff, and the implementation of a new record-keeping platform. Goals for the coming year include transitioning to updated reporting and scheduling software to enhance operational efficiency.
Bradley expressed satisfaction with the city’s financial management, noting that the budget concluded with 95% of allocated funds spent effectively. He urged departments to adopt conservative budgeting practices, ensuring that services provided to residents remain robust while being fiscally responsible.
Economic development remains a top priority for the mayor, who aims to showcase Lorain as a city positioned for growth. In 2025, partnerships with the steel industry recognized the city’s potential, while significant developments such as the Broadway Commons project moved into pre-development stages.
Looking ahead, Bradley is eager to maintain safe neighborhoods and encourage community engagement. He plans to discuss his vision for Lorain and the accomplishments of the past year during his upcoming Mayor’s Address, scheduled for February 26, 2026, at the Lorain Palace Theatre. This event will provide another platform for Bradley to articulate his goals for the future.
As he navigates a landscape of both supporters and critics, Mayor Bradley continues to advocate for a Lorain that embraces its diversity and fosters sustainable development, aiming to improve the quality of life for all its residents.
