During a recent episode of the “Angie Martinez IRL” podcast, singer and mother of four, Ciara, shared her thoughts on the challenges of modern parenting. She emphasized that her greatest concern is where her children acquire their information. With the world becoming increasingly complex, Ciara expressed the importance of being actively involved in her kids’ lives to help guide their understanding of current events.

Ciara, 40, described herself as a “partial” helicopter mom who enjoys being engaged in her children’s lives. “This world is like bananas,” she said, highlighting the overwhelming access to information young people have today. She believes that parents must remain vigilant and informed to counteract external influences on their children. “My greatest fear is that the world tells my kid information that shapes them when I could be the one telling them,” she stated.

The singer is the mother of a son, Future, from her previous relationship with the rapper of the same name, and has two daughters and another son with her husband, Russell Wilson, the quarterback for the New York Giants. Ciara underscored her commitment to understanding her children’s world, saying, “I want to be aware of what’s happening in their world.” This connection not only helps her empathize with their experiences but also fosters open communication.

Reflecting on her own childhood, Ciara uses her past experiences to relate to her children. “I want them to feel comfortable with me, but I also want to make sure I’m thinking about what I could have done better to serve them better,” she explained. Such introspection allows her to create a supportive environment where her children can thrive.

Ciara also expressed pride in being able to discuss important topics with her kids before they hear about them elsewhere. She mentioned the satisfaction of having “real conversations” that empower her children and prepare them for the challenges they may face. “I feel really proud sometimes when you beat the world to telling your kids something,” she added.

In her conversations with other outlets, Ciara has shared her aspirations for her daughters to develop a strong sense of self-worth. “I want my girls to know that they’re not limited by their gender or the color of their skin,” she stated in an interview with Parents magazine in March 2023. These sentiments echo her broader views on motherhood and career.

Speaking with Vogue in August 2023, Ciara discussed how becoming a mother reshaped her perspective on her career. In an industry where motherhood was often seen as a drawback, she embraced her role as a parent while pursuing her professional goals. “The moment you had a child, you were automatically labeled as older or not focused,” she remarked. “Having my babies and being on this journey to go after all that I’m trying to achieve has just been one of the coolest things.”

Through her candid reflections, Ciara provides a glimpse into the complexities of modern parenting. Her commitment to staying informed and connected reflects a desire to navigate the challenges of raising children in a rapidly changing world.
