Beloved Community Member Margaret Merrill Crowe Passes Away at 91

Margaret Merrill Crowe, a cherished member of the Hampton community, passed away on January 4, 2026, at the age of 91 after a prolonged battle with dementia. Margaret’s life was marked by her unwavering faith and dedication to her family and friends.

Born in Dickenson County, Virginia, in 1934, Margaret was the daughter of the late Claude and Eula Williams. At the age of seven, she relocated to Hampton, Tennessee, where she spent the majority of her life. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Howard Crowe, along with four sisters, a brother, and a daughter-in-law. Her family includes her son, Tony Crowe, his wife Tomi Gail, and daughters Patricia Hyder and Judy Gosnell, both of Hampton. Margaret is also survived by two grandsons, Chad and Jeremy, as well as a great-granddaughter, Dezaray, and a beloved cat named Simba.

Margaret’s faith was central to her life. She accepted the Lord at the age of 12 and remained a devoted member of the Valley Forge House of Prayer. Known as a homemaker and friend to many, she made a lasting impression on those who knew her.

A funeral service will be held on January 8, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway Percy Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Danny Osborne and the Rev. Tim Simerly. Prior to the service, the family will greet friends at the funeral home from noon until 1:30 p.m.. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be chosen from among family and friends to honor Margaret’s memory. The family expresses gratitude to the staff, certified nursing assistants, and nurses at The Waters of Roan Highlands for their compassionate care and friendship during Margaret’s illness.
