22Beacon Secures Over $120 Million to Enhance Educational Facilities
22Beacon has announced a significant boost to educational access through three new awards totaling over $120 million. This funding aims to enhance high-quality educational facilities across the United States, particularly in underserved communities. The announcement, made on October 1, 2025, highlights 22Beacon’s commitment to supporting schools that lack essential resources.
The organization received two grants from the U.S. Department of Education under the Charter Schools Program (CSP). The first is a $20 million Credit Enhancement grant, and the second is a $2.1 million Model Development and Dissemination grant. With this latest funding, 22Beacon has now secured a total of $91 million from the CSP, maintaining its status as a leader in charter school funding.
Alan Washington, CEO of 22Beacon, emphasized the positive impact of these investments, stating, “The real winners of these awards are the students, families, and communities that will now have greater opportunities to thrive.” He noted that many schools serving low-income populations struggle with inadequate facilities, which hinders their ability to provide quality education. With these new resources, 22Beacon aims to transform these schools into thriving educational environments.
The $2.1 million Dissemination grant will support a five-year initiative called “Mastering the Blueprint: A Playbook for Facilities-Ready Charter Schools.” This program will develop a digital toolkit that includes evidence-based practices for facilities management, along with webinars and case studies. By turning school facilities into valuable assets, 22Beacon seeks to empower schools to operate sustainably and expand their capacity effectively.
In addition to the CSP grants, 22Beacon has been allocated $100 million under the Bond Guarantee Program (BGP). This funding allows schools to access long-term, fixed-rate financing, enabling them to acquire their own facilities. This approach delivers greater financial stability and predictability, benefiting school budgets significantly. Unlike traditional bank financing, BGP financing eliminates high issuance fees, facilitating a smoother transition for schools.
After successfully deploying 75% of its initial BGP allocation to support eight schools across Arizona, Florida, New York, and New Mexico, 22Beacon is now poised to utilize this second allocation to reach even more underserved communities. By focusing on facilities in these regions, the organization aims to strengthen its impact on educational quality nationwide.
22Beacon operates as a national nonprofit organization focused on expanding access to quality educational facilities. Through innovative financing solutions and strategic partnerships, the organization is dedicated to breaking down barriers in public education. Since its inception, 22Beacon has helped hundreds of schools open their doors and serve families effectively.
