Syracuse University is set to host two significant showcase events aimed at highlighting areas of distinctive excellence within its academic framework. These events, part of the university’s strategic initiative titled “Leading With Distinction,” will enable the campus community to engage in discussions and presentations centered around key academic priorities. The first event is scheduled for October 20, 2025, focusing on Veterans and Military Families.

First Showcase on Veterans and Military Families

The showcase dedicated to Veterans and Military Families will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Schine Student Center, specifically in Rooms 228 and 229. Participants are encouraged to register online prior to the event. Jamie Winders, the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, will facilitate the event and deliver introductory remarks before leading into two informative breakout sessions.

The first session, titled “Incorporating Veterans Into the Curriculum,” will feature a panel of experts including Joseph Ditre, a professor of psychology and director of the Center for Health Behavior Research and Innovation; Stacy Hawkins, managing director at the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families; and Eileen Schell, a professor of writing studies, rhetoric, and composition.

The second session, “Veterans and Inclusive Pedagogy,” will include insights from Liz Green, executive director of the student experience at the College of Professional Studies; Rob Pusch, assistant teaching professor at the School of Education; and Milton Santiago, assistant professor of visual communications at the Newhouse School. A closing discussion will follow, featuring Kelly Chandler-Olcott, Dean of the School of Education, and Ron Novack, Director of the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, among other panelists. This discussion will center on the experiences of veteran and student service members.

Upcoming Showcase on Experiential Inquiry

The second event, focusing on “Experiential Inquiry,” is planned for February 23, 2026, at 3 p.m., also at the Schine Student Center. Further details will be shared on the University Events Calendar as they become available, ensuring the community has access to pertinent information.

For additional inquiries regarding these showcases, interested individuals can contact Pamela Young at 315.443.4364 or via email at [email protected]. These events aim to foster collaboration and understanding within the university, reflecting a commitment to supporting veterans and enhancing educational practices.
