Two Newborns Welcome the New Year at Concord Hospital

Two newborns at Concord Hospital in New Hampshire marked the arrival of the New Year in a remarkable way by being born just hours apart yet in different years. The first, Caroline Margaret Reed, entered the world at 9:22 p.m. on December 31, 2025, while her counterpart, Hadassah Grace Callix, arrived at 4:31 p.m. on January 1, 2026.

Caroline’s parents, Elizabeth and Christopher Reed, celebrated the occasion as a unique way to welcome the New Year. “It’s just a crazy way to ring in the New Year,” Elizabeth remarked, her eyes reflecting joy as she held her newborn daughter, who weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces. Caroline was born two weeks early, securing her title as the last baby born at the hospital in 2025.

Just a short distance down the same hospital floor, Alexis and Eddy Callix welcomed their daughter Hadassah, who became the first baby born at Concord Hospital in 2026. “She’s a very special baby,” Alexis said, cradling Hadassah, who weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces.

Both mothers, aged 29, expressed their surprise at the timing of their babies’ arrivals. Elizabeth, a baker, had just finished her workday when she sensed that labor was imminent. Christopher, a firefighter, received a text from her detailing her condition and rushed home, feeling the weight of uncertainty. “It was a little nerve-wracking, driving home, not knowing how far along she was,” he recalled.

On the other hand, Alexis had been in active labor for two weeks, eagerly anticipating Hadassah’s arrival. The journey to the hospital from their home in Hillsborough was tense, with snowy and slippery roads adding to the urgency. “It felt like hours instead of minutes,” Alexis said, reflecting on the challenging drive.
