Tabb High School Celebrates 100th Victory in Field Hockey

Tabb High School achieved a remarkable milestone in field hockey by securing its 100th consecutive victory on September 30, 2023. The Tigers dominated Smithfield with a decisive score of 13-0, solidifying their place among the elite programs in the Virginia High School League (VHSL). Under the leadership of coach Wendy Wilson, Tabb aims for its twelfth state championship, further enhancing its storied legacy.

Football Highlights from the Bay Rivers District

In football, Warhill High School triumphed over York with a score of 35-0, improving their record to 3-2. This victory marked Warhill’s second shutout in 18 meetings against York. The game took place at Bailey Field, showcasing the Lions’ strong performance as they blanked the Falcons, who now hold a record of 2-2.

Across the Peninsula District, Bethel rolled to a commanding 53-0 victory against Kecoughtan. Hampton University recruit Amari Pryear was a standout, scoring four touchdowns, including an impressive 86-yard catch-and-run. The Bruins, now 3-2, set a record for their highest score in a rivalry game against the Warriors, who fell to 2-3.

Woodside High School also made headlines by defeating Menchville 41-21, leveling their record at 2-2. The game, held at Todd Stadium in Newport News, was interrupted by lightning with 7:17 remaining on the clock. This victory marked Woodside’s first win against Menchville in their last four encounters.

Field Hockey Dominance and Other Scores

In addition to Tabb’s historic win, several other teams showcased their prowess on the field. Norfolk Academy secured an 8-0 victory against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, with Allie Tyszko leading the charge with three goals and an assist. The Cox team also shone, defeating Green Run 18-0, where Bella Glenn scored four goals to help her team dominate the match.

In the Beach District, Bayside bested Salem 2-0, while Kellam edged past Ocean Lakes 2-1. Princess Anne also had a solid game, defeating Landstown 3-0, with contributions from Kelsie Manugo, Olivia Hogan, and Charlotte Daugherty.

In individual sports, the Eastern District Golf Championship saw Granby score 344 to secure the title, with Maury following closely behind at 352. Eli Doyle from Maury took home the medal with a score of 76 at Ocean View Golf Course in Norfolk.

Girls’ tennis saw Cape Henry Collegiate triumph over Norfolk Collegiate 8-1, while boys’ volleyball featured Kellam defeating Bayside 3-1, showcasing strong performances from players like Joshua Eanes and Kamren Hingerty.

The volleyball scene also highlighted impressive matches, with Cox sweeping Salem 3-0 and Kellam overpowering Bayside 3-0. Notably, Menchville continued its dominance by defeating Hampton 3-0, reinforcing their stature in the Peninsula District.
