September Reset: Self-Help Expert Offers 3 Key Strategies

As September approaches, many individuals are seeking ways to implement fresh starts in their lives. The month is often associated with returning to school and settling back into routines after summer vacations. Self-help expert and author Tam Kaur has shared three effective strategies for maximizing this seasonal “reset” and setting a positive tone for the months ahead.
Enhance Self-Awareness
The journey towards self-improvement begins with self-awareness. Kaur emphasizes the importance of observing one’s habits as a key first step. She suggests spending a few days living as usual but with heightened awareness of daily routines. “Watch your habits closely. Notice what distracts you and what throws off your momentum,” Kaur advises.
Even minor behaviors can significantly impact productivity. For instance, Kaur points out that she tends to feel more irritable and less productive on days when she sleeps in, even by just an hour. She also notes that turning on the television for background noise can lead to aimless scrolling on social media. By identifying these patterns, individuals can develop healthier habits that foster greater efficiency.
Establish Structure in Daily Life
Creating structure is vital for maintaining focus and achieving personal goals. According to Kaur, simply recognizing negative habits is not enough; individuals must adjust their lifestyles to eliminate those habits and build new ones. “A reset won’t stick unless it’s supported by routine,” she asserts.
Tools such as habit trackers and calendars can help in establishing this structure. Kaur recommends breaking larger goals into manageable daily actions. For instance, if the goal is to increase daily step counts, one might consider waking up slightly earlier or drinking water before coffee to gain the necessary energy. This structured approach can significantly enhance motivation and productivity.
Declutter Your Digital Environment
The concept of decluttering extends beyond physical spaces; it also encompasses one’s digital environment. Kaur highlights that a clean digital space can greatly improve mental clarity. She urges individuals to unfollow social media accounts that provoke feelings of insecurity or comparison, retaining only those that inspire and uplift.
Moreover, Kaur suggests reorganizing mobile devices by moving distracting apps—such as TikTok or Instagram—off the home screen, while prioritizing applications that support personal goals, like calendars or meditation tools. “Let your digital space reflect the person you want to become by the end of the year,” she advises.
As the seasons change, the opportunity for a personal reset becomes available. By applying these strategies from Tam Kaur, individuals can create a more structured, mindful, and inspiring environment, setting the stage for success in the months to come.
