Rabbi Dov Wilks from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) played a pivotal role in leading the recent Chabad on Campus international conference held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from October 15 to 17, 2023. This annual event brought together over 400 delegates from around the world, including educators, community leaders, and students, to discuss strategies for enhancing Jewish life on campuses globally.
The conference focused on a variety of themes, including educational programming, outreach initiatives, and fostering a sense of community among Jewish students. Participants engaged in workshops and discussions aimed at empowering leaders to better serve their local Jewish populations. Rabbi Wilks emphasized the importance of creating welcoming spaces for students, particularly those who may feel isolated or disconnected from their heritage.
During the opening session, Rabbi Wilks highlighted the significant role that Chabad plays in strengthening Jewish identity among students. “We are here to ensure that every Jewish student feels at home, no matter where they are,” he stated. The enthusiasm in the room was palpable as attendees shared their experiences and aspirations for the future of Jewish student life.
Chabad on Campus has been instrumental in promoting Jewish values and traditions on university campuses for over two decades. With more than 200 Chabad centers worldwide, the organization aims to reach every Jewish student, providing them with resources, support, and a sense of belonging. The Milwaukee conference served as a platform to celebrate these accomplishments while addressing the ongoing challenges faced by the Jewish community in a rapidly changing world.
The event concluded with a call to action, encouraging attendees to implement the insights gained during the conference in their local communities. Rabbi Wilks urged participants to remain committed to their mission, stating, “Our work is far from done. We must continue to innovate and adapt to the needs of our students.”
As the conference wrapped up, many participants expressed gratitude for the experience and left inspired to make a difference. The collaborative spirit and shared commitment to enhancing Jewish life on campuses resonated throughout the gathering, ensuring that the momentum generated during the event would continue well into the future.
In summary, the Chabad on Campus conference not only strengthened bonds among current leaders but also inspired the next generation to carry the torch forward. With leaders like Rabbi Dov Wilks at the helm, the future of Jewish student life appears bright and full of promise.
