The Placer County Planning Commission has approved a significant plan to transform the Cisco Grove Campground into a modern resort-style retreat. This initiative is spearheaded by Sun NG Cisco Grove RV Inc. and aims to enhance the outdoor experience for visitors by introducing a range of contemporary amenities.

Located near Donner Summit along Interstate 80, the campground will retain its 144 traditional campsites while adding modern features designed for both recreation and community engagement. Key upgrades will include a refurbished general store and welcome center, a swimming pool for summer enjoyment, and a snow tubing hill with an accompanying pavilion for winter activities.

Enhanced Facilities for Year-Round Enjoyment

The proposed developments aim to elevate the family-friendly atmosphere of the site. In addition to the already mentioned facilities, plans include a miniature golf course, pickleball courts, a crafts pavilion, and a paddle boat dock. These enhancements will be exclusive to registered campers, as the campground will not provide facilities for public day use.

The upgraded campground is designed to accommodate outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year. Regular operations will run from mid-May to mid-October for tent and RV camping, with limited RV camping options available from October through May. This year-round strategy seeks to attract a diverse range of visitors, ensuring the campground remains a popular destination.

Moreover, the project will address the critical issue of fire safety by incorporating fire-safe design standards. This collaboration with CAL FIRE aims to mitigate risks associated with wildfires, which are a growing concern in the region.

Commitment to Community and Employee Welfare

The redevelopment plan goes beyond leisure enhancements. It includes the construction of on-site employee housing to accommodate up to 32 workers, reflecting a commitment to staff welfare and operational efficiency. This approach underscores the importance of ensuring that employees have access to adequate housing, enabling them to provide better service to campers.

Currently, the Cisco Grove Campground, situated at 48415 Hampshire Rocks Road, welcomes approximately 47,000 visitors annually. With these planned improvements, the Placer County segment of the campground is poised to become an even more attractive destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

As the project moves forward, stakeholders are optimistic about the positive impact on the local community and the overall camping experience. The renovations promise to blend traditional outdoor activities with modern conveniences, creating a unique retreat for all who visit.
