Marie Watson Named New Executive Officer of Santa Fe Builders Association

Marie Watson has been appointed as the new executive officer of the Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association, bringing a wealth of experience from her previous volunteer work with the organization. Watson, who has been actively involved with the association for the past three years, succeeds Miles Conway, who recently left after five years in the role. The announcement was made last week by Lynsey Pompei-Storm, the board president.
Watson’s appointment is effective from September 1, 2023. She holds a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture from Colorado State University and has spent five years engaged with the building community in Santa Fe. Her prior role was with a general contractor, a position that she believes will enhance her ability to represent various stakeholders within the construction industry. Watson expressed her enthusiasm for her new position, stating, “I’d say it’s a great advantage, personally and professionally,” highlighting her established relationships with board members and industry professionals.
Conway, who had been leading the association since March 2020, transitioned to the New Mexico Home Builders Association in August 2023. He continued to assist the local group while the board conducted its search for a successor. According to Pompei-Storm, Watson’s strong industry connections and her relational skills played a significant role in her selection for the executive position.
Focus on Community Engagement
The Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association, founded in 1992, aims to connect prospective homeowners with tradespeople and craftsmen in the area. Watson intends to prioritize relationship-building as part of her initial strategy in office. She plans to channel her efforts into upcoming events, including the association’s annual golf tournament and membership drive, which she views as opportunities to engage with members and demonstrate the benefits of their involvement.
“I want to make everyone feel like part of our community because they are,” Watson noted, emphasizing her commitment to inclusivity within the organization. Pompei-Storm praised Watson for her approachable nature and enthusiasm, saying, “Marie is very down to earth and very enthusiastic. She can relate to people from all walks of life.”
Watson’s diverse background in design, construction, and volunteerism is expected to serve her well in her advocacy role. She remarked on her varied interests, stating, “I’ve always said, ‘I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.’ But I’m passionate about each one of those for its own reason.”
As Watson steps into her new leadership role, her focus will be on fostering a strong community among members and enhancing the association’s impact within the Santa Fe construction industry.
