Horizon Community Foundation Launches Champ Fund to Honor Brad Fritz

The Horizon Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky has unveiled a new initiative called The Champ Fund, dedicated to supporting survivors of traumatic injuries. This fund honors the legacy of Brad “Champ” Fritz, whose resilience has left a profound impact on the local community. The announcement followed a tragic incident in July 2025, when Fritz was hospitalized after being struck by a suspected drunk driver.
Fritz’s journey has been marked by significant challenges since a life-altering car crash at the age of 15. He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a friend who had been drinking, resulting in serious injuries that left him in a wheelchair. Despite these obstacles, Fritz has dedicated his life to helping others, particularly young people, make better choices.
Known affectionately as “Champ,” he became a familiar and uplifting presence in Edgewood, often seen at the intersection of Turkeyfoot Road and College Park Drive, where he greeted passing drivers with a smile. His approach to life has inspired many, making him a symbol of hope and strength in the community.
The establishment of The Champ Fund was made possible by a generous anonymous donation of $25,000, which will help individuals and families facing financial difficulties as they recover from traumatic injuries. Nancy Grayson, President and CEO of Horizon Community Foundation, expressed the significance of the fund, stating, “Brad embodies the very best of our community, strength, kindness, and the courage to turn pain into purpose. The Champ Fund is a meaningful way to honor his legacy while helping others find hope and healing.”
The Champ Fund is now open for contributions, inviting community members to support those navigating the challenges of recovery. Donations can be made online at horizoncfnky.org/fund/the-champ-fund.
Horizon Community Foundation, established in 2017 as a qualified public charitable 501(c)3 organization, aims to improve the quality of life for all individuals in the Northern Kentucky area. Its mission focuses on uniting resources to create a positive impact within the community. More information about the organization can be found at www.horizoncfnky.org.
This initiative reflects a commitment not only to honor Brad Fritz’s legacy but also to foster a spirit of support and resilience among those facing life-altering challenges. By contributing to The Champ Fund, individuals can play a part in helping others find the strength to overcome their hardships.
