The achievements of high school athletes deserve recognition, and this week, five standout boys from various sports have been honored for their remarkable performances. The Winona Daily News has spotlighted these young talents, encouraging readers to vote for the “Supernova,” the player whose performance resonated the most.
Luke Herman Drives G-E-T Football to Victory
On September 26, 2023, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (G-E-T) High School celebrated its first win of the fall season by defeating Viroqua 43-14. Junior Luke Herman played a pivotal role in this victory, showcasing his skills both offensively and defensively. He scored a remarkable 71-yard touchdown during his only reception of the game. Defensively, Herman was equally impressive, contributing with 4.5 tackles, including three solo efforts, and securing an interception.
“Luke played a great game on defense and was a big asset for us in stopping the run,” said G-E-T coach Luke Oliver. “On offense, he was a good vertical threat in the passing game and helped us break the game open. We are very happy to have him on our team.”
Gavin Kammerer Propels Cotter Soccer to Dominance
In a conference matchup on September 23, the Cotter boys’ soccer team faced La Crescent-Hokah and emerged victorious with a decisive 6-0 win. Gavin Kammerer made significant contributions by scoring two goals, helping to solidify the Ramblers’ impressive record of 11-2, keeping them undefeated in the Three Rivers Conference.
The team continued their success by claiming the conference championship on September 25 with a 1-0 victory over Plainview-Elgin-Millville, marking their fourth consecutive title.
Parker Kujak Leads C-FC Football to Narrow Win
In a nail-biting match on September 29, Cochrane-Fountain City (C-FC) football pulled off a narrow 15-14 victory against Pepin/Alma. Parker Kujak was instrumental in the win, scoring a crucial 50-yard touchdown rush in the final moments of the game. He also contributed defensively, totaling four solo tackles, 14 completions, and one interception.
“Parker is a player who, in the toughest moments, stays calm, cool, and collected,” remarked C-FC coach Jesse Cyrus. “He is always surveying where that next big play could come from.”
Tyson Prigge Shines in Lewiston-Altura Football
On September 29, Lewiston-Altura football triumphed with a dominant 47-0 win over United South Central. Tyson Prigge set the tone early with a strong 31-yard kickoff return, leading to his team’s first touchdown. He scored two touchdowns during the game and played a critical role in the defense, with two solo tackles, four assisted tackles, and one tackle for loss.
“Tyson is a multi-dimensional player who is just as effective as a pass catcher as he is as a runner,” said Lewiston-Altura coach Brent Olson. “He gives us the ability to beat the defense in different ways.”
