The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University will host the acclaimed Galvin Cello Quartet on February 20, 2024, as part of its 30th anniversary performance season. The concert, scheduled for 19:30, will showcase an array of works inspired by various cultural traditions, marking the fourth event in the anniversary series.

Formed by musicians hailing from Brazil, South Korea, and the United States, the Galvin Cello Quartet gained recognition after clinching the Silver Medal at the 2021 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. The ensemble’s momentum continued with a victory at the 2022 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, leading to their inclusion in the prestigious Concert Artists Guild roster.

Ensemble Background and Artistic Vision

The quartet derives its name from the Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, where three of its founding members—Sydney Lee, Haddon Kay, and Luiz Fernando Venturelli—studied under the esteemed cello pedagogue Hans Jørgen Jensen. In June 2024, the quartet welcomed a new member, James Baik, who has also trained under Jensen.

With a shared dedication to innovation and connection through music, the Galvin Cello Quartet aims to expand the artistic possibilities within the cello ensemble framework. Each member contributes exceptional virtuosity and unique musical influences, enriching the group’s dynamic. Their recent and upcoming performances include notable appearances at esteemed venues such as Bravo! Vail, Ravinia, the Ascent International Cello Festival, Newport Classical, Merkin Hall, and the Walton Arts Center.

Community Engagement and Ticket Information

This concert is presented in collaboration with Friends of Good Music, reinforcing the Quick Center’s ongoing commitment to cultural diversity and artistic excellence. The Quick Center’s galleries will open one hour prior to the concert and will remain accessible through intermission.

On February 19, they will host a high school masterclass at 10:00 followed by a Rathskeller performance at 20:00.
