D-FW Agencies Provide Holiday Support with Food and Gifts

As the holiday season approaches, various agencies across the Dallas-Fort Worth (D-FW) area are stepping up to offer support to individuals and families in need. These organizations are providing essential resources such as food, gifts, and other assistance, making the holidays brighter for many.

Food Distribution Initiatives

Among the notable efforts, the University of North Texas at Dallas, in collaboration with the North Texas Food Bank and Services of Hope, will distribute meals to approximately 1,300 families. This event is free for students, staff, faculty, and community members, and it does not require prior registration. Meals will be available while supplies last, offering a crucial lifeline to those facing food insecurity this winter.

The M.I.N.T. Foundation is also making a significant impact by hosting a gift drive on December 20 from 09:00 to 13:00 at DeSoto East Middle School. This nonprofit focuses on serving people of color, providing support in areas such as homeownership and education, and aims to ensure that families have access to gifts during the holiday season.

Additionally, the East Plano Islamic Center runs a “Help Your Neighbor” drive-through food pantry every Saturday from 13:00 to 14:00 at 4700 Star Court in Plano. This initiative allows community members to receive essential food items without any income or ZIP code requirements.

Holiday Gift Assistance Programs

The Mission Arlington free Christmas Store is another vital resource, open from 10:00 to 18:00 from December 13 through December 22, excluding Sundays. On December 23, it will operate from 10:00 to 12:00. This store allows families facing financial challenges to find gifts for children up to age 17. Located at 400 W South Street in Arlington, the store welcomes volunteers who can assist in various capacities. Interested individuals can either show up or call 817-277-6620 to coordinate group volunteer efforts.

For those unable to attend holiday events, the MLK Fresh Produce Distribution Center at 2922 MLK Blvd. offers fresh produce, vegetables, and dry goods from 10:00 to 14:00 on weekdays. This service does not impose any income or residency restrictions, ensuring that anyone can access the resources available.

Meanwhile, the Salvation Army at 1818 Corsicana St. serves three free meals daily throughout the year, including on Thanksgiving, providing a consistent source of nourishment for the community.

People living in counties such as Bosque, Cooke, Denton, and Tarrant can find additional resources through local directories. Residents of Collin, Dallas, Ellis, and surrounding counties are also encouraged to seek assistance via community outreach programs.
