Dean Michael Balster, a beloved figure in Brainerd, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on September 30, 2025, at the age of 59. Born on July 23, 1966, in Slayton, Minnesota, he was the son of Harold and Colleen (Berg) Balster. Dean’s life was marked by his commitment to family, work, and community.

On June 11, 1994, Dean married Barbara Sunde in Nisswa, establishing a partnership that would last over three decades. He was an esteemed carpenter at Hy-Tec Construction, where he contributed significantly to the local building landscape. Dean’s craftsmanship and dedication to his trade earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

Dean is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their three children: Alex (Adam) Balster of Brainerd, Nicole (Ryan) Goehring of Herreid, South Dakota, and Sophie (Nicole) Tucker of Pequot Lakes. He also leaves behind his parents, Harold and Colleen Balster, along with three sisters: Debby Keefer of Round Mountain, Texas, Dawn (Scott) Heide of Pillager, and DeAnne (Rodney) Pierzinski of Lake Shore. Dean was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Molly, Madison, and Chase Goehring.

Community Celebration of Life Scheduled

In honoring Dean’s memory, a Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at his residence located at 18938 Maryville Road in Brainerd. Family and friends are invited to join in sharing memories, laughter, and stories about Dean in the comfort of his home, a place he cherished deeply.

The event will feature snacks and refreshments throughout the afternoon, allowing attendees to reminisce and celebrate his life together. Arrangements for the event are being managed by the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
