Carroll Community College Foundation’s Steve Wantz Retires After 24 Years
Carroll Community College has announced the retirement of Steve Wantz, the executive director of its foundation, after nearly 24 years of dedicated service. In recognition of his significant contributions, the college has awarded him emeritus status, one of its highest honors. Wantz’s tenure has been marked by a remarkable transformation of the foundation, which has significantly expanded its financial resources and outreach.
Joining the college in 2002 after a distinguished 26-year career in financial services, Wantz is a proud alumnus of Carroll and a first-generation college graduate. At the time of his arrival, the Carroll Community College Foundation managed less than $750,000 in assets. Under Wantz’s leadership, this figure has grown to more than $36 million, funding scholarships, academic initiatives, and capital projects that enhance the educational experience for students.
Major Fundraising Successes
During his time at the foundation, Wantz led four major fundraising campaigns, each surpassing its financial goals. The latest initiative, titled Turning Hopes and Dreams into Reality, set a record by raising $14.46 million for scholarships, campus improvements, and workforce development programs. This campaign exemplifies Wantz’s ability to galvanize community support and resources for the college.
Furthermore, Wantz has been instrumental in launching several enduring initiatives. Among these are the President’s Society, the Joseph F. Shields Legacy Circle, and the Starry Night Gala, which has collectively raised more than $2 million for scholarships over the past two decades. These programs have not only bolstered financial support for students but have also fostered a sense of community and shared purpose within the college.
A Legacy of Leadership
In a statement regarding Wantz’s retirement, Rosalie Mince, President of Carroll Community College, expressed deep appreciation for his impact. “Steve’s leadership has transformed what is possible for Carroll and its students,” she said. “His ability to connect people to our mission has built not only financial strength, but also trust, pride, and a shared purpose that will endure for decades.”
As Wantz steps down, the college looks to build on the strong foundation he has established, ensuring that the support for students and the community continues to grow. His legacy is expected to resonate throughout Carroll Community College for years to come, influencing future generations of students and stakeholders.
